This Past Month: March + An Announcement

(a.k.a. #lifehappened and caught up with me)

At last! March is over! I have to say that this month went by much quicker than February, which is strange, because February was three days shorter....

Anyway.

March was a pretty productive month for writing. I guess you could call it average. No crazy scrambling to prepare for betas. No doing major re-writes with an alpha reader. No... stress (wow, really? xD) The other day I even decided to take a day off from writing because "everything was well."

I finished re-outlining Outcast for the most part, but the plot is a bit crazy, so I decided to go over the first 25% with my alpha reader to know if I needed to make some major changes. (and now I bet everyone's wondering what's so strange with it. I can't tell you xD) It's frustrating weird to have the exact opposite problems with the sequel than I had with the first book. Writing is confusing  :P

On top of that, plot bunnies attacked with a vengeance. I mean, I never never never get more than one a month, rarely even that, and I got three in March. One was inspired by ashes, the other by a novel I've been wanting to write for over a year, and the last by a horse model I oohed and awed over (bc apparently I'm one of those stereotype writers who wrote about horses for the first years of her writing life)

I might work with one. Might.

GUYS, I ACTUALLY READ LAST MONTH. *nods* Yup. I reread A Time To Rise, finally read By Darkness Hid, and finished reading one of my old manuscripts that I got printed out (which totally counts as a book, btw).

In all, I got in about seven books. (four were short, but yeah). It feels really good to be reading again. This month, I'm hoping to finally finish Pride and Prejudice and Mere Christianity (bc the speculative fiction lover in me got a bit distracted halfway through. BUT I WILL FINISH THEM).

I'm also hoping to finish the book of Genesis AT LAST and maybe even make it through Exodus. There's just so much good stuff in the Bible that I want to frame practically every verse on the wall.

I walk/run/bike ride/ramble about plots or walk in content silence here with my mom several times a week. flowers, people

March was a very fun blogging month. I followed several more blogs, wrote some of my now favorite blog posts, and took part in my first blog tour. Here's all the stuff:

Also in the awesome world of blogging.....

Savannah @Scattered Scribblings celebrated one year of her novel, Killing Snow. Go give her some support and awesomeness!

Julia @The Barefoot Gal printed a book of her poems and omw it's so awesome and exciting

Kate @The Goodness Revolt posted this and I nearly cried it's so beautiful.

Life came with a vengeance.

Um, actually, getting older/growing up came with a vengeance, and resulted in 3-4 hours of Drivers' Ed every morning except Sundays for two weeks at the end of the month, just when I thought things were slowing down. *headdesk*

Aaaanyway, that was (and still is. yay.) fun. Very fun.

Then I had a test with public speaking the week before. I tried to study but there's no way you can study for standing up with over a dozen pairs of eyes on you and still being able to talk coherently. But I did it and I'm so glad it's over.

Right at the end of the month, I went for a hike at Torry Pines State Reserve and the flowers were blooming. And I mean BLOOMING. There was a whole river of them practically right down to the beach. My organized self decided against bringing a camera for some reason, so all I can do is tell you how beautiful it was xD

And... I'm reading old school books?!? Something just came over me and I'm rereading history books and novels from middle school and grade school. I must be going crazy, especially to want to read a history book (I'm not much of a history person, if you didn't already know :P)

The months are still a little hectic, but I'm finding that I feel calmer if I set aside fifteen minutes every day for quiet.

For nanoers, CAMP STARTED TODAY SORRY I HAD TO REMIND YOU xD This is my first time doing Camp NaNo, and I'm aiming to edit 50 hours.

Edit what?

Ha...um...my novel? I'm supposed to get it back on the 4th. However, I might cheat a little and edit the sequel until then, still counting the hours for my Camp goal though (shhh. don't tell anyone)

I'm also going to be taking Easter week off from blogging (9-16th). I'm going to be at Church a ton, and I'd like to set aside that week to prepare for the celebration of Lord's Resurrection =)

And now for that announcement....

......

Wellll.... I....

I started a newsletter.

I meant to get it going last month, but I had no idea what I'd talk about in it, and I was so busy I couldn't figure out how to get things going right. However, I was able to work on it more, and finally have it all set.

My main reason for this is all the positive feedback and excitement I got from the post I did on my writing updates. I honestly had no idea how much everyone liked posts like that until then. I thought it might be fun to do one once a month, but then I wouldn't be able to do some other posts I had planned.

Thus was born this newsletter.

On the first Tuesday of every month, you'll have an email sitting in your inbox with writing updates, publishing updates, and maybe some snippets. All you have to do is sign-up below! A widget is also going to be on the sidebar now, too.

PLEASE NOTE: I'm not sending one this Tuesday. The first email will come on May 2nd.

So that was my month. What about yours? Did you get some marching done in March? (sorry for the bad pun xD)

Yay for doing public speaking! I am NOT good at that. (More a writer than a talker, ya'know? That's my excuse ;)

Glad you had a fun blogging month! I loved reading your posts :)

I'm also planning to read more of the Bible, especially since I'm now on holiday for two weeks. I've been really bad about that side of things recently :(

Have a lovely Easter, Audrey!

I SO RELATE WITH DRIVER'S ED (kinda). My parents, when I was learning to drive, woke me up early in the morning to start driving, and even though I have my provisional license, they're wanting me to practice to drive the the next town... 100 miles away!

I've rereading history books before. I know it's a strange urge but keep reading those because they're really good. You can draw a lot of occurrences and patterns which can be good for the plot bunnies. *flails all around*

I'm so excited for your newsletter! I'm really proud and can't wait to be one of its regular readers <3

It sounds like you've had a busy March!! I do have to say I really enjoyed your posts this month. Also, wow. You read a lot and wrote a lot!! I'm hoping to catch up with my reading this April and May, and finally write the first draft of this new idea I've been entertaining for a few weeks now.

Sounds like fun! I was also able to read one thing last month (literally yesterday) but man it felt good to read something that wasn't homework and was just for pleasure.

No way your starting a Newsletter too? I was going to as well, dang you beat me to the announcement but it looks like we will be starting it around the same time.

Oh I'm trying out that Camp NaNo thing as well!

You're getting attacked by plot bunnies to?! I got attacked by two in March (and one in February). I'm not complaining though, I like new ideas. :D

I've been struggling to read more to. I think I might be in a reading slump, which I'm trying desperately to get out of. :P

Oh, driver's ed. That's fun. I took it last year, and I'm probably gonna go for my license soon. Can we just pretend that I already took it?

Glad you had a great March! And good luck with Camp NaNo! :)

Same :P I wish I could have written my spiel and handed it in like "it's better on paper, so read this." xD

Yeah, me too :P Life can just get so busy. I pray that your holiday helps though <3

Thank you! You too!

AAAAAAHHHH. THANK YOU <3

At April 1, 2017 at 7:10 PM , Blogger Audrey Caylin said...

Yup :P I'm especially not looking forward to it because driving is so crazy here in SoCal. I might take my actual driving test in a small town though.

Eeep, yes, I hadn't thought of that! I more just had a sudden thirst for knowledge, but I might find some plot bunnies... *goes searching for them*

At April 1, 2017 at 7:13 PM , Blogger Audrey Caylin said...

Awwww, thank you so much, Andrea. Your support means so much <3

*glances at Pride and Prejudice* I might not get much in this spring because of all the long novels on my list :P I hope you read some awesome books! And first drafts are soooo fun, especially when they're shinny and new :D

At April 1, 2017 at 7:17 PM , Blogger Audrey Caylin said...

Awesome! Homework is definitely not fun to read :P And reading books gets us excited to go write some of our own stuff!

Whoa, really? Are you using MailChimp? I've heard of a couple other ones, but MailChimp looked the easiest (I'm not as techy as I wish I was)

Cool! This is my first year as well. I like that we can set our own goals rather than have to make 50,000, like in NaNoWriMo

At April 1, 2017 at 7:20 PM , Blogger Audrey Caylin said...

*strokes the plot bunnies* I'm not complaining either xD

I'm pulling myself out of one right now. I think it helps to start by reading shorter books, so you're more encouraged when you're finished *glares at Pride and Prejudice*

Exciting! I hope it goes well! My older brother took it a few years ago. I guess that you have to make a really big deal of looking over your shoulder and glancing back and forth when pulling onto the street. That's what made him lose points :P

Thank you! Have a great April! :D

By Darkness Hid yessssss *flails* I love that book! And I feel the exact same way about the bible. Can I just write on all the walls? EVERYWHERE. I NEED IT ALL AROUND ME XP It's all so beautiful and /good/ and life giving and just AH.

Also, newsletter? That's so exciting! *high fives*

I just found your blog and AWESOMENESS. Good luck with outlining! Are you do a Camp NaNoWriMo this year?

At April 2, 2017 at 2:37 PM , Blogger Marrok Macintyre said...

Yeah! like all hyped up ready to write/draw something!

I think I will be using MailChimp as well, just because it does look easier and I don't have the time to be all techy.

Yeah I like that as well since I'm a rather busy dude at times. Hey if you want you can follow me on it. I don't really know how it works but I'm MarrokMacintyre there.

AHHH AUDREY IS DOING A NEWSLETTER!!! *scrambles around and instantly signs up*

I'm soooo excited for Camp NaNo. I wrote 5k on the first day!! *bounces* (I didn't write on Suday, because I always take that off as a break, because a) it's a day of rest and b) it really helps keep me motivated if I have a weekly day off. Even in the middle of /actual/ NaNo and everything insane)

I do admit that it was a little slow for me at the start, but once it got faster, it was like "wooooooow this is AWESOME." xD

Right?!? I think it would be amazing if there was a room somewhere in the world that had the entire bible written on the walls. Like, one room for every book. (I think I'm going to put that in a story, actually xD)

Thanks for stopping by! :D

Eeeep! Thank you! And WELCOME <3

Yep. It's my first year, and I'm already liking it a lot. Are you doing it?

At April 3, 2017 at 10:39 AM , Blogger Audrey Caylin said...

AHHH. THANK YOU, JANE. (now the pressure is on for me to write something good xD)

O_O THAT'S AWESOME. *high-five* What's your word count goal?

*nods* That's probably a good idea. I need to start doing that :P

At April 3, 2017 at 3:03 PM , Blogger Jane Maree said...

WELKS. XD

I've got an official goal of 50k, but I'd like to finish my first draft - however long that turns out to be I have absolutely no idea. Could be anywhere between 50-100k-ish.

At April 3, 2017 at 7:51 PM , Blogger Audrey Caylin said...

Yeah :P I hear that there are other ones, but mostly for when you get over 5000 subscribers :P

Oooh, cool! *goes to stalk your page* I like your synopsis xD (synopsises are the bane of me)

At April 3, 2017 at 7:53 PM , Blogger Audrey Caylin said...

(ARE YOU AN OUT OF TIME SERIES FAN TOO?!? BECAUSE ONLY THEY SAY THAT. XD)

That's awesome! And I know. I'm horrible at estimating my word-counts. One time, I thought a novel would be 80k, and it ended up as 65k, and I thought one would be 90k, and it ended up as 110k, so... :P

Torrey Pines State Reserve? I think I've been there! (*whispers*) Do you live in San Diego, too? O.O

I've signed up for your newsletter! I can't wait for the first edition; I know it'll be great!

BTW, I've tagged you in the Sunshine Blogger Award: Bookish Edition, in case you're interested: http://livkfisher.blogspot.com/2017/04/the-sunshine-blogger-award.html. :)
